Figments Friday: Throwback Addition

Figments Friday: Throwback Addition

This is my picture so please give me credit, also I would like to give credit to the Brooklyn street artist who created this.
You probably have read this in a different post, or an interview or something (I’ve mentioned it a few times) but I have never finished a piece of writing. I counted and discovered that I have started roughly 18 different stories and never finished them. So I’m going to do a little something fun today and give you a clip of my embarrassing early writing and then a bit of my newer stuff so we can laugh at my lack of skill from years ago and then smother a chuckle at my slightly improved but still novice writing from this week.
Figments Friday is an original feature for writers, wherein they share something about their writing, a character interview, an excerpt, a conversation between a character from one WIP and a character from another WIP, ect.  Feel free to join in!
Rules:
1. If you use my image please give me credit!
2. You DON’T have to do the same style post as me and can post in what every style you want about whatever you want as long as it has to do with sharing your writing. (Not advice)
3. Please remember to link back to me in your post, giving me credit for the feature and make sure to link up by using the button at the bottom of this post!
Note: I reserve all rights to all of my original work. If you quote or reference any of it I ask that you give me credit. Any snippets and excerpts are works in progress and may have typos or need more editing, for the most part they are first drafts.

First up a clip from what might have been the first story I ever tried writing. It was a lovely gem called “The Queen’s Circle.” It was based in Ireland with a crazed plot that went ever where at once. I haven’t corrected any grammar or changed anything from what it was like before. (I will forgive you if you laugh. I laugh at myself so that makes it ok.)

As you can see, subtly was not my forte, The Island Killer is the first time I’ve attempted it since and I feel like it is going a lot better this time but I may be blind to my own flaws. Foreshadowing didn’t work for me. (I’ll give you three guesses what the attempt at foreshadowing was trying to “hint” (*cough* screaming *cough*) about.)

Here is a second, more recent and hopefully more subtle attempt at foreshadowing. Hopefully it worked out better. Weather it did or not you are only permitted to quietly chuckle at that one because it is recent and it may wound my pride. I do not however have so much pride that I would not permit you to laugh even a little bit. So chuckle away my friends. (P.S. That last one was from The Island Killer)

And don’t forget your writing and link up!

Today I want to do an interview with Kali and her currently nameless younger sister. K=Kali L=her little sister

Q: Tell us about your sister and how you would describe her.

K: *tugs on the end of braid* She is 14 going on 15 and kind of naive at times. Fashion is definitely her thing along with everything pink, she is pretty much your typical 14/15 year old girl. She is inseparable from her phone and is always talking a thousand miles a minute to one of her group of close friends. She has three really good girlfriends but everyone at school loves her. She has a mouth on her but she probably got that from me, generally she’s pretty sweet, and she’s definitely a charmer.

L: Kali’s generally pretty quiet around people and she doesn’t have a lot of friends, or fashion sense. I’ve tried to help her and give her tips and stuff, but she doesn’t listen. She’s into all that nature stuff or whatever, but I don’t know, that’s not my thing, it’s too, like dirty, I don’t know how to describe it, it’s just not my scene. She’s very, down to earth I guess, you could say, although she has kind of a temper at times.

Q: How would you describe your relationship?

L: Don’t get me wrong Kali’s great. I mean she’s my big sister so I’m supposed to love her, which I do, but we don’t have that like, bond, or whatever, that sisters are supposed to have. We aren’t inseparable or anything, but she is always there for me when I need her.

K: It’s complicated. We love each other and always have each other’s backs, but we also fight a lot. We just don’t see eye to eye very often, because we are so different.

Q: Do you ever wish you could change your sister? What would you change?

K: I don’t know. Not particularly. She get’s on my nerves sometimes but I still love everything about her.

L: My gut reaction would be heck yeah, I’d change a lot. I’d change her wardrobe, make her more comfortable around people. Oh and I’d get her a boyfriend STAT, she needs one. Maybe he’d get her to come out of her shell and stuff. But, really, if I changed all that stuff about her that bothers me then she wouldn’t be the same person any more and I kinda love her just the way she is.

Q: What is life like at home?

L: I don’t know I feel like it’s pretty normal. Mom and Dad take turns cooking and sometimes Kali and I help. I have after school stuff a lot so I’m not home as much during the school year. It’s pretty laid back, we don’t do like family game nights or any weird bonding thing like that, and Kali likes to kind of do her own thing, so we all kind of do.

K: I guess you could say we are a pretty casual family. My parents are super into independence and “going your own way” so we all do what ever we like doing. We have family meals and sometimes we are all in the room watching a show or a movie, but like I said before most of the time we just do things on our own.

Note: these characters are from my first WIP “The Island Killer” and you can find more information on it at the bottom of my “About Me” page.

Welcome to round two of a brand new weekly writing feature called Figments Friday. If you didn’t read the original post or just need a refresher, here’s what its all about, every Friday I am going to share a figment of my imagination with you guys. It may be a synopsis draft, an excerpt a character interview or description, a teaser quote, ect.. You are welcome to join in as long as you link up with me. You can use my picture as well or create your own.

P.S. I’m sorry about the crazy formatting issues last time. I’ve never really tried embedding documents before and to do what I wanted I couldn’t use a regular google doc, and well things got complicated, but I think I’ve officially figured it out.

This week’s is a bit different from the last one, but I’m really excited about this, I think it will be a fun one. Short and simple though. Four of my more major characters are going to discuss their current favorite song.
Kali
Oh wow, um my favorite song? I don’t know I don’t really have favorite songs. I have favorite artists. I like The Black Keys and City and Colour. I love the soulful passion that comes through from the artists and the lyrics.
Miss Malu
I love old music and music that makes people happy! Louis Armstrong is one of my favorite artists. I love that brassy, rough, and distressed, quality his voice has. I love “What a Wonderful World,” but “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” is a close runner up.
Finn
Oh, man, um I don’t know. I like Eric Hutchinson’s music and I really like Death Cab For Cutie. I guess I like softer indie music the most. Something that’s a little bit, I don’t know, spunky? Lyrics are important to me, but how it sounds over all means more to me. I love a song with great bass, but the two I wan’t to share don’t really fit that.
Kanuha
One of my favorite songs right now is “Am I Wrong” by Nico and Vinz. I guess I relate to it a lot or something, but I just let people think I like it because it’s catchy and what’s popular right now. Everyone thinks that I’m like that. One of those popular kids that’s perfect, and shallow and just follows what’s “in,” just because I like a lot of stuff that is popular, I play football, and I hang out with some people that are like that. I hate that people just take me at face value and I really hate that I’ll never get a chance with the one girl I really want because of it.
P.S. I’m signing off for a while, but Catherine @ Stray Imaginations  may pop over to keep you guys company sometimes. Also, all of the weekly meme’s I participate in will proceed as usual thanks to all this newfangled technology. Have a great rest of the month!
